Darrell W. Charles Jr.
Winter 2009 Spotlight Artist
Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Artist Darrell, W. Charles, Jr. has been a Coast Salish carver for over 17 years. He works primarily with wood, carving masks, paddles and rattles. He also works with stone, metal, and glass. He is an accomplished drum and canoe maker. The bronze door pulls you see at the Longhouse are his design. The designs on these bronze paddles are bear and thunderbird.
Over the years Darrell has taught in both a classroom, and non-traditional classroom settings. Darrell is a fisherman, singer, dancer, and a canoe skipper mentoring Indian youth.
Darrell’s artwork remains true to his ancestry and teachings. We are honored to display his work in the gallery through the month of February.
We would like to thank Darrell Charles for his continuous support and donations in support of the Longhouse and its programs.
