Kenny Jimmicum
Spring 2009 Spotlight Artist
Makah Tribal artist Kenny Jimmicum is our spotlight artist through April 2009. Kenny comes from Qwiqwidicciat, "People who live by the rocks and seagulls". He makes traditional art in the traditional manner. His work has a simple, ancient look, and this is intentional, as Kenny honors his history in his methods. He believes it is not how fancy or flashy something is that makes a gift, but the prayers and feelings that go into it.
Kenny makes traditional fishing gear, including cedar bark rope, fishing harpoons, and halibut hooks. Also on display are traditional items, including an "oil lamp" as seen above.
Don't miss your chance to meet Kenny at the Guest Artist Reception on Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 at 3:30pm in the Longhouse.
